Professor Frank Tipler Tulane University Math Department New Orleans FROM: George Hammond M.S. Physics Cape Cod MA SUBJECT: Your 1994 book: _The Physics of Immortality_ Dear Frank: Your 1994 book establishes that a human being could be "emulated" on a big enough computer and that this would constitute a "Resurrection" of the body ..... e.g. the computer emulation would be the resurrected "spiritual body" described by St. Paul in I Cor 15:35-58. But in your (1994) book you cite brain speed as 10^15 bits/sec. Since then Penrose-Hameroff have raised that figure to 10^30 bits/sec because of the discovery of the processing speed of the vast MICROTUBULE system inside the neurons. In view of the fact that the microtubule system remains viable for at least 30 minutes after death, isn't it more reasonable that the brain simply "downloads" a lifetime precomputed "emulation" of the person from the microtubule system and that this is in fact "Life After Death" so called..... hence your theory is CORRECT... but in fact we don't need to construct the mammoth galactic sized computer you propose because it turns out the brain already possesses a mammoth enough computer to do the trick in the microtublule system. Your "computer emulation" theory is BRILLIANT... but isn't it time you brought the theory down to earth in view of the 15 orders of magnitude of newly discovered computing power in the brain which actually makes a "computer Resurrection" in the brain a scientific explanation of St. Paul's "spiritual resurection" much closer to hand rather than having to build a "Hal" sized computer to do it as you propose? Such as: ******* [Hammond] Aw comon..... if you really like kooks, TIPLER simply can't be beat... the guy's even a full professor (of physics I believe) at an accredited university in Louisiana. I wonder who they think Micheangelo painted on the Sistine Chapel Ceiling? If anybody has read that book by Sellog (or Tipler), give us a rundown.. it's fun to watch liars when they run out of ideas. ******* Good to see the old kook has given his keepers the slip - no matter how short lived it will be. |

Cognitive science can show good evidence for the theory that the brain's activies are enough or sufficient to create all of human experience, even a so called soul or other epiphenomena. If there is a God and it created us, it could either have done so with a dualistic soul or a soul that is merely the result of the activities of "a" brain or some such "similar device." Are you saying that you have some evidence that makes it more probable that If God then Not identity with activities and strongly supporting your dualism? [Clear answer here] .... [Name calling ad hominums here] .... Identity Theory of Mind) is a theory, in philosophy of mind, which asserts that mental events are type-identical to the physical events in the brain with which they are correlated. The thesis of type physicalism is that mental event types (for example, pains) are identical, perhaps contingently, with specific physical event types in the brain (for example, C-fiber firings). It is called type identity in order to distinguish it from a similar but distinct theory called the token identity theory. The type-token distinction is easily illustrated by way of example. In the phrase "yellow is yellow is yellow is yellow", there are only two types of words ("yellow" and "is") but there are seven tokens (four "yellow" and three "is" tokens). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_theory But in your (1994) book you cite brain speed as 10^15 bits/sec. [Hammond] Jibu in a now famous series of papers points out that the microtubules are very likely "water lazers" and (hollow) waveguides for infrared laser action. Sir Roger Penrose even was overheard at a recent symposium saying that "the hollow microtubules are just the right diameter for a massless exchange boson to travel right down the middle like a rifle bullet". "Robotics" is an interesting subject for pedestrian minds, however, Theology and the Resurrection of the dead is a fit subject for more serious minds, which is what we are discussing here. In fact, TIPLER being a prof. of Math-Physics and computer science, has SHOWN that a computer can "theoretically emulate a person" and therefore, "Resurrect" him after death.... a historical accomplishment on his part! ======================================== SCIENTIFIC PROOF OF GOD WEBSITE http://geocities.com/scientific_proof_of_god mirror site: http://proof-of-god.freewebsitehosting.com GOD=G_uv (a folk song on mp3) http://interrobang.jwgh.org/songs/hammond.mp3 ======================================== With the greatest admiration for your historic publication, George Hammond, M.S.
