The pretty well sums you up. OTOH Eric actually can think and applies it to
understanding physics.

The physicist-want-to-be does not even understand the calculus of
Variations. You must have not learnt anything in school yet still.
shrug

...and what level of understanding do you expect of me?

Calculus of variations has never been taught to me, but I understand
the point of it and how to do it in simple cases.

This is obvious because you noted on another thread that for constant
velocity ds/dt, ds must be zero.

I also don't completely understand the tensor formalism, but that is ok
because it has never been taught to me either.

This has been obvious for quite some time.

I have not been taught the modern formalism of special relativity
either, but I have some level of understanding. Certaintly better than
a fair bit of the folks in here.

Yap, popular science books.

General relativity has not been taught to me in ANY detail, yet I know
enough to understand where my knowledge is deficient and where I need
to go to proceed. I also have enough knowledge to point out the errors
in YOUR understanding.

This is obvious also, the first part I mean.

Sure, you can point and laugh about my level of understanding but I'd
like to see you take a crack at the stuff I'm interested in with my
expected level of knowledge. I'm a junior undergraduate who is finally
getting to go through nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and classical
E&M. You don't see me commenting about THOSE subjects much, do you?

If you are still studying you ought to be spending you time doing your
projects rather than being on usenet all day long. Seems like you
forgot the words: on probation.

Oh, you were whining about calculus of variations. Do you have a
problem in mind, or were you just planning on sniping some more? I'm
perfectly willing to work through a problem if you show that you are
capable of the same level of understanding you expect from me.

I have one:

If ds/dt = constant, how small are ds and dt?

hahahahahaha

idiot, better go study sociology.

AHAHAHA... WOW!....So, you prefer 1-liners. Bad scene, Yehi.
Your desire for a short attention span is a sign of encroaching

Does that make you happy, Yehi?
