I too have seen considerable sheer hucksterism by physicists in recent
years. Nowadays "physicist" seems to mean nothing more than "person
with a Ph.D. in physics". I wonder by what ratio the physicists of
today outnumber those of 1900 or 1905.
But about this MDT, can you do anything testable with it? Even if not,
can you fill in all the details whereby it reduces to the existing
theories in whatever limiting cases?
How does the fourth dimension expand while others don't? Aren't all
four of them puddled together by special relativity?
But whatever it is you want to say in a journal, if it were me, I would
exclude any mention of rival theories except insofar as they are
relevent to the current paper. And I would abstain from any armchair
philosophizing. But then, I don't write for physics journals, and I've
never been much of a salesman
Larry

P.S. Check out the American slang word "boondoggle".
