John Baez was here looking for ideas and discussion. It became
apparent that that had become a waste of time with UA and his
pals driving any reasonable originality out of the newsgroups
along with constantly engaging the cranks.

in discussing his Finds posts, not in the lowly non-moderated groups
anyway.

In fact it crossed my mind that he may actually resent non-experts
replying to his Finds posts, suspecting they are simply trying to
"hitch a ride" so to speak in getting attention.

But who knows, maybe people in the past have abused the privilege
by obviously doing exactly that; so I'm not trying to imply he's
being unreasonable in disdaining discussion, just that it's
curious to claim he is (or has been recently) looking for it!

I'm talking about threads not under the Weeknnn variety. I'm talking
about the last time, IIRC, he was here in s.p. The
treatment was appalling, downright viscious and not dissimilar
to the way Shultz goes after Uncle or certain other individuals go
after others.

This is absolute nonsense.

But who knows, maybe people in the past have abused the privilege

I have been talking about usage trends of these newsgroups over
the last decade. You appear to not be able to think of
events that have happened two months ago, let alone
two nor ten years.

If Dr. Baez runs true to form his occasional presence here results
from a grep style scan for his name showing up in usenet news groups,
there to look and answer if he thinks it necessary. As he commented
recently he is so busy that often he doesn't reply to email even
from .edu sources. It is easy enough, when one has access to a unix
style usenet database of articles, to run searches for other key
words of interest while excluding articles published by known kooks.

He used to participate here more but has, as he stated in sci.physics,
moved his attention more to blogs where there are more interesting
conversations.

Doubtless Uncle Al has found one or more to his liking as well. If he
behaves himself he'll find, in general, better discussions there, for
the present anyway.
