The history of relativity can be reduced to destroying the rationality
of generations of scientists and gaining enormous profits by simply
introducing an idiocy called the principle of constancy of the speed of
light, on one hand, and hard work for masking the fraud, on the other.
The defense of the principle has taken different expressions, e.g.

1. The most primitive, at present used by zombies only: "Cite an
experiment that provides evidence to convince the world that speed of
light should be treated as not invariant in inertial frames. No
experiment in the world can prove a theory. One single experiment can
falsify it."

2. A less primitive, suggested by Einstein in Chapter 22 in his
"Relativity" and used by the initiated but only reluctantly since it
almost explicitly states that the speed of light is VARIABLE in a
gravitational field: "In general relativity, arbitrarily weird
coordinate systems are allowed, and light need move neither in straight
lines nor at constant velocity with respect to bizarre coordinates (why
should it, if the labelling of space and time is totally arbitrary?).
However, general relativity asserts the existence of locally inertial
frames, and the speed of light is a universal constant in those
frames."

Despite the imperfections, so far the defense has guaranteed some
serenity in the relativity cult and in the scientific world in general,
in so far as critical thinking has been eradicated long time ago. Yet
lately more and more experimentalists have been obtaining superluminal
speeds and the initiated are in a real trouble. They are dsperately
looking for new defenses but the first attempts are not very
successful:

3. Tom Roberts wrote:
Any _thing_ that propagates always carries some information, its own
presence at least. But interference artifacts between existing waves
need not carry information (and usually don't).

I don't think further attempts of the initiated will be more
successful. That is a plight. It seems 100 years are some limit - you
cannot cheat the world for more than 100 years.

It's a sad but common phenomenon, brought to prominence by the
open nature of Web and Usenet: Some who encounter scientific or
mathematical results that they cannot or will not comprehend,
choose to rail against the theory, rather than deal with their
own difficulties.

In this case, we can safely ignore them. I take the
relativity-deniers even less seriously than I take other brands
of nut-cases, because I worry others could build nukes.

Others, like myself, who cannot comprehend scientific or mathematical
results of any description, and who choose not to rail against
theories, for *sure* will get around *soon* to dealing with their own
difficulties. I *promise*.

In this case, we can safely ignore them.

Safely, yes. But it's not a great deal of fun.

Ach! I'm sure an impactor is on its way - no worries. Just make sure
you've got plenty of popcorn handy...not that you'll have any hands...

I fear he has a hopeless task with you, you are troll that has no wish
to learn.
