Hi,

This NG, until recently, had really high standards on participants and
topics, even the so called trolls had it.

When was this golden age? As long as I can remember, this group
was dominated (by volume of posts, anyway) by the likes of
Henry Wilson, Ernest Wittke, etc.

When I first started people of the caliber Steve Carlip and John Baez posted
more. I do not think the number of crazies has dropped off - but the number
of quality posters has - which makes the crazies seem more plentiful.

That's a good point, and you really can't blame them. How many times
can you spend a half hour writing a polite and careful response to
some bizarre off the cuff post, only to see the same thing posted
verbatim a couple days later. I'm not usually one to quote the
Bible, but in this case Mat. 7:6 seems appropriate:
"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither
cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample
them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

thank you enlightnigning us, that you and your
boyfriends are about steve carlipe standard and
not about a dogs standard

will you mind with a pdf-link to one of your
numerously published papers, thank you very much

id none, then your boyfriends published papers
will be thanksfully appreciated

To me
the crazies are a laugh - a good way to while away a bit of time while I am
share trading.

Up to a point, but in the end they remind me of Howard Stern - funny
for
a while and then just repetitious and annoying.

I simply ignore the worst like the dyslexic troll Don
Giovanni. Trouble with him (and others as well) is he changes who hew posts
under so people who are genuinely interested can't even ignore or killfile
him. To me they are the worst.

I don't see anyone currently as stupid and psychotic at JosX
these days.

I must admit he was pretty bad.

Thanks
Bill

I only check in on rare occasions, and I can't tell that there's
been any real change in content in years.

Now it's full of total
nutcases and idiots that don't even have the curtesy to ask when they
don't understand, or just say the most ridiculous things going for
verbal abuse, ad hominum, personal attacks, and so on when they get
told that they're wrong.

I'm no physiscist and do not claim to be...only a lurker that is
interested in physics, but even I can see that this NG is going down
the drain.

I'll probalby give on this NG soon :-(

Hi,

Just thought I'd ask what the h*** happened to this NG?

The world is full of idiots and a disproportionate number are
posting in this newsgroup. For some reason, every idiot who knows
nothing about science, has no interest in science, lacks any
talent at anything but being an asshole and has too much time on
his/her hands, thinks they can overthrow relativity by exploiting that
one talent on usenet.

As proof, look at the efforts of one troll who posts under at least
a dozen different names and posts nothing but idiotic comments and who
is clearly uninterested in anything related to science. Obviously,
that person has no skills at anything but being an asshole, since he
obviously can't find a newsgroup (out of 40,000+ newsgroups) where he
could contribute anything useful to anyone. He isn't even skilled enough
at being an asshole to post newsgroups where creativity t being an
asshole is appreciated. He obviously has plenety of time on his hands
to create and post under numerous different names.

This NG, until recently, had really high standards on participants and
topics, even the so called trolls had it. Now it's full of total
nutcases and idiots that don't even have the curtesy to ask when they
don't understand, or just say the most ridiculous things going for
verbal abuse, ad hominum, personal attacks, and so on when they get
told that they're wrong.

The world is full of busybodies whose only means of entertainment is
drawing attention to themselves by disrupting others who are trying
to do something productive. The ones who can't even do that well enough
to become politicians, try to validate themselves by showing the world
they can litter a newsgroup with non-creative trolls.

I'm no physiscist and do not claim to be...only a lurker that is
interested in physics, but even I can see that this NG is going down
the drain.

Sorry, but perhaps if you and other lurkers told those people they were
assholes, they'd decide to find another newsgroup to pollute. After
all, they can't see themselves as being profound and important if
everyone else knows they are assholes. They most likely think they
have a large fan base in the lurkers, since the rest of their ``support''
comes from the numerous identities they create for themselves.

and this coming from one calling himself

you are moron by definition, get lost moron

Why is that a problem? Illiteracy is only a problem for those who aren't
doing something about it. The real problem is the scientific illiterates
who are are also complete idiots and unable to realize they don't know
anything about science.

sure it has anything to do with you

you agree that you call yourself

and that you are lurking, and that
you are not satisfied anymore with
the standard of the discussion in this
newsgroup

then you call other people for being
"total nutcases and idiots", while
you never made even a wrong statement
contributing to a discussion

you are an impertinent, not pertaining
to the matter in hand, having no bearing
on the subject, not to the point, irrelevant
and absolute inapplicable

your absence will be highly appreciated

On the contrary, anyone who actually learns something about realtivity
on this newsgroup is accomplishing something useful - he/she is learning.
The idiots who have nothing better to do than try to prevent others from
educating themselves are the ones whose absence would be appreciated.

Which is why I engage them for a while then forget about them eg I now
rarely if ever engage the dyslexic troll who post sunder multiple names and
AllYou. I do not actually killfile anyone because it disrupts the flow of
threads. On a positive note a genuine question will often get the attention
of Steve Carlip (and other knowledgeable posters) who will give excellent
and highly helpful responses.

Thanks

Perhaps, but as most of the lurkers I feel I haven't got good enough
grasp of several topics to confront them. Just telling them that
they're being assholes haven't worked in the past - there are a lot of
NG exemples of that. The numerous identities are another problem, and
they act like "bad shoes" and "Don Giovanni" in this thread. I've
noticed that it has gone so far that the number of post/day in this NG
has declined. Also the number of thread that are off-topic or
over-the-top-ic has increased...

And to be really honest, some of the poster here scare me. The respond
to any challange of their post with a visciousness that make me wonder
over their sanity.

It doesn't imply anything, you moron. The poster stated explicitly that
he didn't know a lot about relativity, but apparently, you were too busy
calling him an idiot under your don giovanni sock puppet to read what
he wrote.

how could one prevent other educating himself?

Figure out why you can't spell or write a grammatically correct sentence,
and you'll probably figure out how someone prevented you from learning
even basic english.

are you educating yourself bilge? no wonder
you once couldnt see the difference between
acceleration by force and gravity...hahaha

Wrong, again. As usual, you were confused just like everyone tells you.
The only difference now is that rather than post zillions of replies
under a single username, you post zillions of articles using a half-zillion
sock puppets to avoid hanging yourself with anything that could be attributed
you.

i like you bilge, you are nice

If that were true, you'd do me a favor and shoot yourself in the head.
As usual, it's just more bull**** due to you getting your panties in
wad.
