It pleases me to see that many waste their time and energies in futile
but harmless persuits such as developing 'alternatives' to theories
that work.

In the Name of Humanity, these people should be *encouraged* in their
useless and doomed endeavors, lest they take up another hobby such as
viral bioengineering or digital genetics where they could inadvertently
do great damage to many individuals and to the resources upon which we
all depend.

Let us keep them in their sandboxes.

How many of those people are experimentalists? There's Orman, and
basically nobody else. Some don't even bother to research the
measurements that relate to their theories, but most concern themselves
with purely metaphysical ideas that don't intersect experiment at all.
E.g. what is the REAL explanation of the phenomena that relativity
correctly predicts but incorrectly explains?

What are the odds that they'd build a microbiology lab in their home?

Probably low. The problem is that they would choose economic
and/or political leadership that have no intention of dealing with
reality and are used to people who have 0% analytical skills.

Good point, very good point.

One of the jobs of the Den Mother was to keep the attention
of a manager who want to "help" while the real work got done.
This was very useful in the middle of a firefight.

Yes, I'm sure it was useful.
