He failed no calculus exam. He was a first rate mathematician, but not in
the same class as others of his time, greats like Hilbert.

Where are you getting this tripe from? Einstein was a very competent
mathematician. He wielded tensor calculus and for that one needs to know
calculus quite well.

He lectured on occasion. And in fact, in areas that interested him, was
reputedly brilliant. In areas that did not he was so so.

Read a book on Einstein for the real facts. He published numerous papers
that showed he was a master physicist and a competent mathematician. He
obtained a PhD while working as a patent clerk (really technical expert but
the name has stuck) which I can tell you from experience is no mean feat. I
did a degree while holding down a full time job and it was not a trivial
undertaking. I partly completed a maters the same way but gave it up
because I was sick of part time study. That Einstein was able to do it is a
great credit to him.
