I thought physics had gone seriously off the rails even before someone
told me about virtual photons. If there is something seriously wrong
with theory then one will get the wrong answer. What in practice happens
is that the theory is assumed to be right and 'dark energy' or 'dark
matter' is invented to make the sums right. The English language is then
abused by describing the fiddle as "Theory predicts the existence
of...."

I agree there is far too much abuse in this NG. Bulge is only one of
many.
