"Daniel Weston" wrote in message ... I guess there are 2 versions (at least) of Newton's bucket experiment. The one I had I mind was the experiment of the bucket connected to a rope, and this twisted rope when released provides torque to the bucket causing it to spin on its axis. Question: Is different analysis required between the overhead bucked rotation, and the spin on a rope experiment? Newton's version was the twisted rope one. I think that is indeed the best and simplest one to illustrate "absolute" rotation effects, as the problem is perfectly symmetrical for the inertial and accelerated frames of reference. Harald |
