"Michael Varney" wrote in message... PETA Sucks. http://goveg.com/feat/vegeye2/ Suck is right. Meat doesn't lead to fat. Calories do. Nothing wrong with being fat in itself, but Old Man had high blood sugar that wouldn't go away. Didn't stop eating meat, didn't stop stuffing myself, just reduced the calorie concentration, but lost 90 pounds in 18 months (weight loss rate declines exponentially with time for a constant deficit in calories), the only benefit being that the blood sugar level was back to normal in the first 3 months. Losing weight sucks. Can't sleep, constantly constipated and chilly now. Constantly yearning for the taste of fat, a natural addiction that never goes away. We eat meat every other day, so we are half vegatarian., it seems to work., but yes fat is addictive. Humans evolved to eat meat and fats. Not grains. Ah, that's a stretch. If you look at societies whose primary caloric and protein inputs are grains absent animal protein, they are a sicky lot. Not only that, but simply looking at the paleoentological record of hominids at the cusp of grain based society, one is struck by how robust and tall pre-agrarian people were. Strong bones, average height of around 5'9'' for the male. That is nearly the average height of 20th century Americans. Strong teeth with little decay. Death was usually by being eaten or killed in a gruesome manner by animal or war, or old age. Along came grains and the average height dropped down to 5'4'' with terrible bones, rotten teeth, deformities and deficiencies. Add to that the increased population density and you get plagues and diseases. Agrarian was good for culture, but not health. That's a poor assumption given Malthusian limits. Rice-based (Japanese, Chinese) and corn-based (native western Amerindian) societies are short of stature with effeminized males. Yup. On a dig in northern Colorado, I was stunned by how short the natives were. Chronic ingestion of grain phytic acid chelates iron and zinc causing chronic anemia and immune dysfunction. Amino acid imbalance (lysine deficiency, especially with corn) hurts. Notice that cat food (grain based crap) has to be supplemented with various amino-acids. Cats were getting sick and dieing off after they were restricted from catching their food. Soya-based cuisine given their high levels of phytoestrogens genestein, daidzein, and coumesterol is especially damning for males. Not counting the veritible cornicopia of odd yeasts that thrive in the fermented products of soy. Women have delayed menopause, men have underdeveloped genitalia. Terrestrial meat can run from predators. Unless you eat polar bear liver, meat is harmless. A blade of grass is stuck fast when a ravenous cow visits. All plants can do is poison their predators. Poisoning from potato solanine is still common in the UK. Ahh... then short Irish. The question is the how much meat is required to retain good mental alertness and general health. That is a certainly up to the individual to decide, as they age..... Ken S. Tucker |

Check out the difference between the stomach of a sheep and that of a human. We do not have the enzymes needed to digest grains. As much as you need. About 35% protein, 45% fat and 20% carbohydrate from vegitables, fruits and berries. Meat is very dense in vitamins (alas not the corral cow variety.) That is a certainly up to the individual to decide, as they age..... Of course. However, let scientific fact be a factor in their decisions. Ken S. Tucker |

But there are major differences also between our digestive tract and those of pure carnivores. For instance the length of the intestinal tract is much shorter in pure meat eaters. This allows them to get rid of carcinogenic decaying meat quicker. Also, the stomach acid of carnivores is much stronger, and salivary action is much different between us as well. Evan |

Yes, that's right, (I read grains, and thought fruits and vegies, watching too many cereal commercials). This is more like a survival school quiz than physics. I've been told that in the deep arctic one can shape an ice lense to use as a magnifying glass, and once shaped, is way easier than rubbing sticks to get fire. That presumes the sun is shining so keep your sticks! (More digression) The question is the how much meat is required to retain good mental alertness and general health. As much as you need.
