' the conventional explanation we suggest for the Pioneer 10/11 anomalous acceleration versus spin-rate change points out in favour of the possibility that something new of physical interest may be responsible of the main Pioneer anomality ' |

[snip idiocy] Yeah, stooopid - lunar laser ranging and the Nordtvedt effect. Yeah, stooopid - http://arxiv.org/abs/gr-qc/0308010 Nature 425 374 (2003) The link says the Cassini Radio Science Team withdrew the paper. Any ideas why they might have done that? Just curious here... Beats me. It looked like a very sweet experiment. Email Giampieri and find out. The only explanation that I can think of is that the same data and conclusion is in Bertotti's paper ("A test of general relativity using radio links with the Cassini spacecraft" B Bertotti, L Iess and P Tortora, Nature vol 425. No. 6956 p. 374, doi:10.1038/nature01997) but I'd be interested to hear anything more. -- Rabbit arithmetic - 1 plus 1 equals 10 Remove spam and invalid from address to reply. |

[snip idiocy] Yeah, stooopid - lunar laser ranging Yeah, stooopid - the old lightspeed measurements using observed orbital time lags of Jupiter's Galilean moons. Yeah, stooopid - communicating with the Martian rovers, the Galileo Jupiter orbiter, Cassini going to Saturn... Yeah, stooopid - radar bounced off Saturn's moon Titan We have gone over each of these before, my friend, and shown them to have assumed light speed but not really tested it. The Galileo moon lags are equally attributable as Cassini said to the changes in viewing angle from the Earth given the planes of the two orbits. |

[snip idiocy] Yeah, stooopid - lunar laser ranging It is stupid to snip the discussion and answer to your objection and simply state the objection again. If you think that my answer that the lunar laser reception was scattered and that faint receptions after 2 and 21/2 seconds could be ascribed to this scattering and the real return was after 2 seconds then say so. Yeah, stooopid - the old lightspeed measurements using observed orbital time lags of Jupiter's Galilean moons. We have gone over each of these before, my friend, and shown them to have assumed light speed but not really tested it. Yeah, stooopid - communicating with the Martian rovers, the Galileo Jupiter orbiter, Cassini going to Saturn... These are perfect examples of assuming the speed of light and not testing it. Yeah, stooopid - radar bounced off Saturn's moon Titan And the results are vague and chosen so as not to be inconsistent with other data on Titan. |
