Default Learning Relativity in a Forum

Folks,

I'd like to learn, to do problems in, to progress my understanding of
relativity.

Somewhere where there are genuine students of relativity and without
Seto, Wilson, Spaceman et al.

Does anyone know of such a website/forum?

Until you can find one, I would recommend that you get -SpaceTime
Physics- by Taylor and Wheeler, preferably the 1966 edition. The new
edition is prettier, but it is not as good.

Do all the excercises.

When you get done, you might not need a forum at all.

Sorry do not know any.

My advice is start with good textbooks (for SR I strongly recommend
Rindler - Introduction to Special Relativity) and gradually work your way
through. Post here for anything you do not understand. The genuinely
knowledge people here (of which I am not one - I am only a dabbler; although
of course I would answer to the best of my ability any question you did
post) will reply.

However self study is your best bet. See Chris Hillmans and John Baez's
sites for textbooks. Get them, read them and think.

I taught myself SR, GR and QFT. You can too.

Thanks
Bill

You're probably right.

I would like to check the answers though.

I doubt you'll find one. I would guess that many relativity forums
are run by the kooks you''re trying to avoid. Why not just work problems
and post questions when you get stuck? If the problems are hard enough
that you get stuck, then you certainly won't get an answer from the
kooks. When was the last time you saw one of the cranks post a mathe-
matical solution to anything?

Actually, I've just seen a kook who claims that calculus is just a math
trick and you don't need it for anything important like going to the moon.

Maybe I should start my own forum...hmmm?

Well, you've been on this group long enough to be able to sort out the
genuinely knowledgeable guys from the nutcases. And a lot of the
knowledgeable guys are obviously willing to give a lot of their time to
helping out sincere students of the subject. If you set forth a question
where you're stuck, I'm sure you'll get lots of help.

This goes for you, too, Laurel. Are you monitoring this thread?

xxein: Discover for yourself from before scratch. Don't let others
influence you with their belief. Use information as guidelines and
not doctrine.

Model your investigation as though you believe that you are the only
living being and all else is fake.

If you don't come up with something, then kill yourself.
