What about Quark-Gluon plasma? Does this not contain free quarks?
"Kyle Taylor" wrote in message om... Hi, Can free quarks exist? Meaning a stand alone quark that is separated from the 3 quarks that make up protons or neutrons? Let's say free quarks can exist and some float in the atmosphere. What theoretically would happen if you collide with them or breath them? Is there an instrument that can detect a free quark? Or how do you build an instrument to detect the existence of free quark in the atmosphere? Thanks Kyle |

What about Quark-Gluon plasma? Does this not contain free quarks? Depends on what you mean by ``free.'' They are ``free'' to wander about through the volume of the quark-gluon plasma (``quagma'') rather than spending most of their time in ``nucleon'' states that only occassionally swap ``valance'' quarks; however, they are _not_ free to leave the interior of the ``quagma.'' -- Gordon D. Experiments are being constructed expressly for that purpose at this very moment. See: http://alice.web.cern.ch/Alice/html/intro/, for example or check to see what experiments are underway at jefferson lab. |

We don't want you're prediction because it is annoying and irrelevant. Sometimes it's just nice to have a little kook-free quiet time. |
