For any half-competent Usenetter, the thread is still there.

This is Usenet convention for decades now. It is useful (no matter what
the newsreader is) because the point being replied to is right there,
amd you don't have to chase the References: thread. Also if you're
replying to one or two points from a 200 line post, you don't have to
(re)read the 200 line post and try to figure out which point is being
commented on.

If you don't like it, feel free to go away, as Usenet isn't for you.

No one cares, JeffglyphRelf. As long as you continue to flaunt
usenet conventions, you will continue to be laughed at and scorned.

ITYM 'flout' usenet conventions.

You are correct, sir. My bad.

I'm pretty sure he'd find annother way to be laughed at and scorned
even if he started following USEnet conventions on quoting.

He always has posting his unreadable C code as a fall-back position.

You bitched and moaned about the style of my carefully-constructed post,
so I used the opportunity ( as I often do ) to explain my preferences.
I'll always prefer those who concisely paraphrase, with “ ” quotes.

You prefer Mr. Art Deco, it seems,
a man who's forever chevron quoting hundreds of lines
( a.k.a. cascading ) adding a word or two on the end.

Mr. Art Deco couldn't write a paragraph if his life depended on it.
Your choice is your choice, I don't give a ****,
I've got other fish to fry.

Yet here you are, JeffglyphRelf. BTW, the votes are running quite
strongly in your favor for the Office of Illucidus Maximus,
JeffglyphRelf. Good show!

Default Why hasn't Bert ( a.k.a. Treb ) won any awards ?

What do you mean by: “ Yet here you are, JeffglyphRelf. ” ?
I said I prefer those who concisely paraphrase and use “ ” quotes;
I didn't say I was leaving UseNet.

If I won “ The Office of Illucidus Maximus ”,
that'd be the fourth award I've won this year, one per month,
since Bert ( not you ) drew me into Alt.Astronomy.

Hopefully, after I've exhausted all of your catagories,
you'll create some new ones for me.
What about Bert ( a.k.a. Treb ) ? why hasn't he won any awards ?

Perhaps if you hadn't done a snip-n-run you might be able to sort out
the answer to this question, JeffglyphRelf.

I said I prefer those who concisely paraphrase and use ł ˛ quotes;

Your lack of clues is hardly my problem, JeffglyphRelf.

This particular reply is a perfect example why your particular style is
useless. You can't even tell who you are replying to, much less what
you mean by "bitch and moan", unless you use a web-based "newsreader" like
Google Groups (ugh) or something, or you chase the references. "Nothing"
is a bit _too_ concise.

(I think it's me; I'm not going to bother to check)

You prefer Mr. Art Deco, it seems,

There's always been the opposite misuse of quoting, the infamous AOL
"Me too" post where the entirety of a large post is quoted with one line
added.

You want to hear more about my hand-rolled newsreader ? sure..
Your header ( condensed ) now looks like this:

2.49 Hours, Thoth➤Mac_GDn Octanews.COM, May 3, 2008, 1.33 P, BT2YaZ
I much prefer those who concisely paraphrase. ”.

I manually added the “ news: ” prefixes for this post,
otherwise Google Groups thinks they're email addresses.

The Message-ID's are now listed oldest first ( up to 5 levels away ),
going down the root to your post.
The “ 2.49 Hours ” means it was posted 2.49 Hours ago.

P.S. I just heard the song “ Annie ” by “ James Blunt ”, nice.

Default Unlike Michael Moroney, I Always know who's replying to whom.

You told me: “ [ I ] can't even tell who you are replying to.. ”.
Unlike you, I Always know who's replying to whom.

Again, the immediate subthread ( up to 5 levels away )
oldest first, down the root to your post is:

“ Michael_Moroney
Jeffâ–˛Relf
Art_Deco

Michael_Moroney
Jeffâ–˛Relf
Michael_Moroney ”.

My hand-rolled newsreader makes this extremely plain,
but even plain ol' Outlook goes to the parent post
when you hit the left arrow icon ( right arrow takes you back ).

I updated my newsreader today ( by compiling changes to X.CPP ),
Windows Live Mail ( formerly called “ Outlook ” )
is also constantly updated.

When was the last time “ nn ” was updated ?
