Gravity turns the mass of matter into its weightless acceleration.
When an object impacts its energy of motion becomes heat. This is the
cause of craters. The energy of freefall motion is converted to heat
upon impact.

Actually, matter is mearly concentrated information.

And, there is never any "impact" of any sort. nothing ever actually
touches anything.
