Default What is Light?

On Apr 24, 7:34*pm, Tim wrote:
I just finished a book by Richard feynman. QED the strange theory of
light and matter. It should answer your questions. Light is a particle
and can be explained by his theory. Quite facinating.

When in School I learnt 2 things about Light

1. Light is a Wave

I was shown Lenses and other Experiments to proove Light is a wave.

2. When I grew up I was told Light is Electro Magnetic Wave.

Later I was Told
3. Magnetic and Electric Field in a light travel at 90`

Can we Change the angle of movement of Electric & Magnetic Field? How
can we say they are perpendicular.

Later I was told Light has photons and its energy is = h*u

So light is a Particle moving at light Speed.

Then I was told Light is both Particle and Wave

Dont you feel things are getting Complex and Absurd.

After 12 years of my passing out of school I still want to know whats
the correct description of light.

Dear Tim: "Photon" aren't "particles". Particles have mass and can
be gravitationally attracted. Photons can be bent by the flowing
ether near massive objects, but they never are "attracted" by
gravity. — NoEinstein —

Nature isn't always intuitive.. for example:

Every object has it's own gravity field;
but it's hard to imagine because it's 4-D, invisible and unblockable,
so you can't model it using common concepts like 3-D billiard balls.

are only three dimensions. — NoEinstein —

Default Besides PMB, who posts good derivations of G.R. in Sci.Physics.*?

.. . I'm very impressed by
your " derivations " of General Relativity;
but, in Sci.Physics.*, who else is doing it ( and doing it right ) ?

Nobody. Most people who posts in forums are far too afraid of making a
mistake.

Pete
Dear Pete: *So, I guess those who will reply aren't shy.

I wasn't talking about those who reply. I was talking about those who
provide derivations of their claims.

Default If you like drunk / drugged students, the Ave is the place.

I'll shoot some pool with you in a bar on the “ Ave. ”,
( U-District, ZIP code 98105 ) and / or show you my roomming house.

If you like tony stores, Barnes & Noble and fine restraurants,
the University Village is good.. and there's parking.

Name the time and place.. I'll be there.
How about Saturday at noon at the QFC grocery store
at the University Village ( also 98105 ) ?

On this map ( showing the University of Washington, North East Seattle )
QFC is on the upper right:

My land-line ( no cell ) is 206.525.5196,
but it's often tied up by the modem.

I can show you various computer labs on campus.
We could walk through campus, maybe chat with a yachtsman.

I can see the Seattle Yacht Club from campus, but I don't go there.
The Arboretum ( just off campus ) is a very nice walk,
lots of trees and water ( Union Bay, Lake Washington ).

Alki beach ( sea water ) is nice,
Discovery park has a nice beach ( sea ),
same for Golden Gardens ( sea ) and Sand Point ( Lake Wash. ).

Jeff: Seattle is a "model" city. If Eric visits there, its status
must be reconsidered. But you would make a great tour guide... even
skid row ;-). — NoEinstein —

Default Smoking catnip.

Seattle was beautiful today; lots of college students on campus,
including younger kids.. art students were playing drums on the lawn.
The sun was shining, a nice breeze was blowing.

A young homeless guy was smoking a hookah talking to a co-ed.
I'm running out of tobacco with no money to buy more;
so I smoked some lawn clippings ( dried grass ).

Big wigs on a megayacht cruised by me ( a few feet away ) at 7 knots.

I smoked a bit of catnip too;
it made me feel strange, I wouldn't do it again.

Smoking Tazo green tea didn't affect me.
I plan on drying some cut spinach in the microwave and smoking that.

There are lots of dried leaves on campus,
I could use an herb grinder and smoke that too.. why not ?

Default Have you heard of the “ spacetime continuum ” ?

Have you heard of the “ spacetime continuum ” ?
When a system is fully known it can be modeled in 4-D;
otherwise its a 3-D model or ( worse ) a statistical model.

Perhaps you should read:
“ Slaughterhouse-Five;
or, The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance With Death ”.

It's a philosophical novel about World War II and 4-D hyperspace.
If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's this:
“ Randomness is ignorance, nothing more. ”.

Hah....silly turd.

Randomness is a property which we ascribe to things like numbers and
events. And while there is no shortage of ignorance which surrounds
it, the thing itself has nothing to do with ignorance.

I'd like to see you try to prove that claim, or even justify it by
argument. For this to be true you would have to have alot of faith in
the information theory view of the universe, which is nonsense
Copenhagen crap.

which synagogue do they attend ?

Einstein worried about / helped Jews in NAZI Germany,
but he was only nominally Jewish.. same for Karl Marx.

Yet, for some here, Einstein, Marx and other “ notional Jews ”
have been made into very strange looking bogeymen.

Dear Jeff: Einstein wasn't a boogieman. He was just a naive,
mentally deficient, hard worker with an ego problem.

He was also correct which seems to give you a problem with
your ego.

You describe how
your mother is expecting the... Second Coming of Christ. Yet, you
talk like a Jew. Don't blame me for telling it like it is that TIME
magazine, owned by Jews, won't consider my disproofs of Einstein,

The other possible reason is that you are a clueless crank who
has idea of what physics is about and are only a source of
amusement to the people who come here.

but
WILL list Lisa Randall, a Jew, as one of the top scientists—because
she contrived... "branes', or tiny universes and etc.
I wanted you to help model the M-M experiment, but you keep
letting your "thinking" get in the way. Stay on science, and leave
sociology to other news groups. — NoEinstein —

I note that your knowledge of sociology is as deficient as your
physics knowledge.

Dear Jeff: Carbon monoxide is a killer no matter what the "grind".
Start drinking more water and exercising. Your craving for smoking
will go away! — NoEinstein —

Dear Jeff: I've already told you that you are entitled to have your
own ideas about the Universe. Though we disagree, you are still an
interesting character. You should try out for a bit part in movies!
