[snip] As I have posted, the best way to prevent evil domestic or foreign elements from co-opting a government, is to select the peoples representatives by RANDOM choice from the pool of people who want the job, and to sell the seats in the Senate to the highest bidder, regardless of where the buyer resides in the world. [snip] ???????????????? Aren't you afraid that all the Senate seats will be bought up by the evil Bolsheviks??? Double-A |

[snip] ???????????????? Aren't you afraid that all the Senate seats will be bought up by the evil Bolsheviks??? Are you suggesting that the elite in any nation, would stand by and let outside forces buy their government? I suggest that you read some history, particularly the history of the Roman Senate, and their responses when their government was under stress, for example, when Hannibal was in Italy doing his thing, and when the Gauls sacked Rome. And on a practical note, under the present system, the "evil Bolsheviks" spend less money to "buy" American politicians than they would if they had to compete directly with the native, patriotic, elite Americans. For example, take a look at how little it cost the "evil Bolsheviks" to buy their two new Congressmen in Alabama and Georgia during the last Congressional election, and consider how many Representatives, Senators and politicians that the "evil Bolsheviks" own, under the present system, and how the politicians they own, cater more to the "evil Bolshevik" agenda, than to the agenda that would be preferred by patriotic Americans. Also note, that if the people's representatives were selected by random lot, that it would be truly DEMOCRATIC, and represent the will of the masses, and that it would be virtually impossible for small, self-serving groups to grab control of the government by intimidation, blackmail, bribery, etc. Can you imagine how much it would cost, and how much time and money it would take, for a religion, a foreign nation, a cabal, a company, a person, to evaluate 535 Congressmen, and to find the key to controlling them? Under these conditions Sharon, the Pope, Billy Graham, the Israeli lobby, the China lobby, fundamentalist Christians, the public service employees, the public education lobby, the oil lobby, etc. would not have a chance. -- Tom Potter http://tompotter.us |

The current jury system works on a similar basis. But the best jurors are not always the ones that "want the job". If congressmen were selected randomly, they should probably be selected from the entire adult population, but then you would have to have a way of screening for competence and sufficiently good health. While service might be considered a duty, you still wouldn't want someone who really didn't want to serve, so you'd have to give them an out. Double-A |
