The title is optimistic I know.
It is well known that Peter Brown is a lying, argumentative crank who spouts
selectively quoted material from books.
One of his favorite sources is Wheeler. Brown constantly uses Wheeler in
his vapid arguments that gravity is a force in GR, and that Einstein
supports this notion. Brown, simply put, would rather argue than learn.

Here is a direct quote from one of his favorite sources. The language is
plain... the message clear:

In the book: Gravitation and Inertia Ciufolini & Wheeler

Page 1. Chapter 1. Paragraph 1. Sentence 1.

"Gravity is not a foreign and physical force transmitted through space and
time. It is a manifestation of the curvature of spacetime." That, in a
nutshell, is Einstein's theory. [1,2]

[1] A. Einstein, Die Grundlage der allgemeinin Relativitatstheorie, Ann.
Physik 49:769-(1916)
[2] A. Einstein, The meaning of Relativity. (5th Edition, Princeton Press,
1955)

Now... I am certain that Brown will hoot and screech and proceed to hurtle
his faeces at people in a fit of rage, but that will not save him from his
stupidity.
What will result in his whining is an increase in his stress levels, which
will hopefully trigger a relapse of his cancer, and finish him off.

Godammit, Mike. I don't care what you think about Peter's unconventional
interpretations of GR, that was totally uncalled for!

Direct your remarks to guys like the following:

(The list of dictators is based upon reports of the most authoritative human
rights organizations such as Freedom House, Amnesty International and Human
Rights Watch. It is a little out of date, taken from an article published in
the spring of 2003, but most are still in power and still killing and/or
suppressing their own people, using their power for personal enrichment.)
1. Kim Jong-il (North Korea)
2. King Fahd and Prince Abdullah (Saudi Arabia)
3. Saddam Hussein (thanks to Bush, no need to mention of what country he is
the leader)
4. Charles Taylor (Liberia)
5. Than Shwe (former Burma, now Myanmar)
6. Teodoro Obiang Nguema (Equatorial Guinea)
7. Saparmurat Niyazov (Turkmenistan)
8. Muammar Gaddafi (Libya)
9. Fidel Castro (Cuba)
10. Alexander Lukashenko (Belarus)

You can also add to the list of guys wishing death on, the rapists who
ruined the lives of people you and I know, etc. This vendetta between
you and Peter is completely out of proportion.

As you well know, it is much more than Peter's misconceptions on GR.

If Peter does not wish to stress out, he can leave and try and find a job to
occupy his time with, rather than suckling on the tit of society. The
amount of stress he produces by constantly harassing people and arguing with
them cannot be good for him. And since he cares little for how his actions
effect others, why should others care how his actions effect him?

Yes I do know. Almost all wars start as a result of "justified" acts of
revenge. And the response to "justified" acts of revenge are "justified"
acts of retaliation. And the "justified" acts of retaliation need to be
avenged, and so on and so forth ad infinitum...

I really don't know and don't care to learn the entire history of who did
what to whom. At this stage it really doesn't matter. Both of you have
"justified" grievances.

But on the other hand, both you and Peter are my friends, and I cannot see
you two escalating into all-out war again.

It is rather odd that you consider Brown your friend. Considering that he
publicly attacks you on these boards.

http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&l...g.goog le.com

I have to admire you for trying to see the best in people. I tried that
with Brown, but those aspects of his personality were quickly overshadowed
by the fact that 99.9% of the time he is an unmitigated asshole.
Brown is the one who pulled out the Nukes in this conflict. He went
straight for matters of livelihood. He has brushed aside multiple offers of
peace, and has continued the attacks.
I highly doubt that calling Brown an idiotic crackpot and wishing death (as
if a person wishing has any effect on his chances) on him compares to him
attempting to have me removed from graduate school. The two cases do not
compare.
I guess in this case Brown is lucky that he does not have a job, nor a
career to worry about. Perhaps he needs to understand what it is like to
have a person attack him in his livelihood.
Peter will have to publicly apologize.

You came all the way back from ROITSS for this?

You and PMB, apparently have a lot in common:
too much time on your hands.
