It looks to me, that the market would like us to keep
them informed of our progress, on the Worlds of Wonder Network, and I don't mind doing that... As a developer, how do you join the rebel alliance and earn the right to use the term Worlds of Wonder Network in your products, and become a member of the Network? Consider yourself a member. Regarding XP... I have just purchased a new machine, a 2800 athlon chip, (which said it was equivalent to a 2.4 GHZ on the box, and reads 2.03 GHZ on bootup) but nonetheless, it works and I upped the RAM to 1 gig. Now years ago, in 1999 I last updated my program Personal TV Studio, and although the exe was only 2.8 MB, it could only be run in Windows if it was run alone. No other programs running. Otherwise it ran out of resources and crashed and burned. But I released it, as it ran well in NT 4.0 without problems and wrote in the docs about the memory issue. Or lack of it. Yet many a time when I looked at the reviews on the net I cringed. The reviewers, did not understand Windows 98. They did not know, that Win 98 was depriving it of memory. They did not have NT and didn't review it in NT. They ran it in Win 98 and claimed it had heap leaks. In other words they said that it was my fault, and if you know about heap leaks, that is as junior as it gets. Of course Windows manages the memory, but I was blamed for it. Now with my new machine, with 1 gig RAM 128MB video, I can run 2 instances of it, and 2 instances of the companion product Media Mogul without any problem whatsoever. Windows 98 in 1999 could never do that. It could barely run one. NT could run both simultaneously though. So the point I am trying to make, is that as we write programs, the machines get faster and more capable to run them. Yet as soon as the new hardware comes out, we update the program and so does Windows, and soon once again we are starved for resources. So by using the 1997 compiler Delphi 3, which is 6 years old, and still runs in XP, I am able to make small fast products that will do what they need to do. I have not used Dephi 7 yet, but I will buy it because it compiles for Linux, but I truly do not need it, as Delphi 3 Professional can do anything I need. In fact, I can do away with the menu system of Windows, with it, and create the room graphical interface, drop down menus with it as well. I do not need to use the standard windows scroll bars, the menu system or any of it. Simply because Delphi 3, allows you to make a splash screen. A splash screen is just a window without controls. You can make your own controls. You can exercise your creativity, and make whatever you want, and it does not have to look the same as the rest. For instance you could make your interface to look like Apple, Linux, Win 3.1 or better still use a bitmap and make a jukebox, or star ship, or a room full of objects, with doors. But comparing my new 2800 which in reality is not 2.8 ghz, as you would expect, that is false and misleading, and neither is it 2.4 it is 2.03 ghz. Talk about wishful thinking. And my SONY VAIO Laptop, 750 MHZ about 2.5 years old, is almost as fast. So I could have done without it, except the SONY had a max ram of 256 MB. But I am very glad that I did not buy into the hype from the 1 gig processors when they came out, as I would not have noticed a difference at all. So who is holding up the tech industry? The chip manufacturers. They are and have been hurting the tech industry and preventing innovation from taking place by their inability to keep up with software development. Hopefully that will change as IBM has announced that they plan to develop superchips. Incidentally, what happened to tech today? Well I am not psychic, but I am willing to bet that someone asked the CEO of IBM about OS/2 and their plans to develop OS/3 and he likely said they have no plans whatsoever of upgrading OS/2. As I suspect, there is a very big problem in the upper eschelons of IBM which should be investigated by the shareholders. I suspect that there are some double dealings going on. Otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever. Is there a hidden MSFT/IBM connection? I suspect there may be. And that could spell disaster for IBM's shares in the near future. Remember you heard it here first people. On a brighter note. Nortel is over 4 bucks now. How many apples if you bought a 3? In a week? That is 25% in one week or so isn't it? Can't touch that. Huggh! -*- |

What are you complaining about?
You are cross-posting to sci.physics and there is nothing I can do about it. Imperfect world |

This particular Wingnut changes his email address field daily so you can't easily block his incoherent rantings. |
