Default Inertia as a measure of mass vs Impetus as a measure of momentum

Mass is the amount of matter in an object. It is not a ratio of

anything.

This definition is meaningless. I would like to see how to determine
the mass of an object without using a ratio. Note you cannot use a
scale because you would have to divide the mass by the acceleration
of gravity. You cannot use a centrifuge either. Mass is a number.
Would you suggest we count the matter in an object? One matter, two
matter, three matter ... of course not. Of course, you could always
leave mass undefined; we all know what it means. But the way people
actually measure mass is by dividing a force by an acceleration.

Yes a kilogram is 9.81 newtons/[9.81 meters per sec˛], and a slug is
1#/(foot per sec˛) = 32#/(32' per sec˛).

Yes we need international standards of measure. dlzc@aol.com \(formerly\) Physics - General Discussion 4 July 13th 03 12:51 AM
