Within the domains of relativity and under certain general conditions,
nothing can go faster than light. However that doesn't mean that aliens
can't cheat and use GR and things like Warp Bubbles.

If it were me making this observation then I'd question how the measurements
were being made. There might be hints as to the manipulation of spacetime
being used and thus violating the assumption that only principles from SR
were being used. However I'm on a GR break so I can't answer this. I've
decided to take a sabbatical in my mind and go back to basics which means
restudying my texts on linear algebra from college and then mastering a few
texts I have on tensors. So I've put off my serious continuation of my
education in GR so as to beef up my foundation in the required mathematics.
You don't need this level of math to learn or understand GR but for the more
advanced stuff it appears neccesary.
